  1. From Greek rhodon, `rose' silvery-white metal
  2. of the platinum family; symbol Rh, atomic
  3. number 45, atomic weight 102.91. It is used
  4. in thermocouples and in electroplating, and
  5. gives a corrosion-free, highly polished
  6. surface, superior to that of chromium.
  7. Rhodium was discovered 1803 by the British
  8. chemist William Wollaston (1766-1828). Its
  9. salts form red solutions, and occurs with
  10. platinum in river sands in the Urals and the
  11. Americas.
